Voicing Doc McStuffins: When a Cartoon Helps Kids Stop Fearing the Doctor

Some characters entertain. Others quietly do something bigger. Being the Latin American voice of Doc McStuffins — 'Doctora Juguetes' — for Disney belongs to the second kind: a little girl who opens a clinic for her toys and, check-up after check-up, teaches millions of kids that going to the doctor is not scary.

That is the magic of this series: a child watches Doc examine a stuffed animal with care and patience, and the next time they sit in a pediatrician's office, something has changed. The white coat is familiar now. The check-up has a song. Health has a friendly face — and a warm voice.

This role gave me one of my first Voice Arts Awards nominations (Outstanding Animation Character – Best Spanish Voiceover, 2020, for Disney Channel Latin America), and it remains one of the works I am most proud of: proof that children's content, done with respect and love, is never 'just cartoons'.

Dubbing a preschool series for Disney carries a very specific discipline: the lip-sync has to be precise, the vocabulary has to stay within reach of a four-year-old, and the warmth can never drop — because for the littlest viewers, Doc's voice is not a performance, it is a friend. Add the songs (Doc sings in almost every episode!) and you have one of the most complete workouts a voice actress can get: acting, singing and sync, all in a child's register.
