Original Voices and Character Creation

One of the things I adore about this career is discovering how the professional overlaps with the personal. Voice actors often find themselves performing characters that resonate deeply with who they are.

"Zamba and Nina" is an original Argentine animated series watched across Latin America. Nina is an African-American girl in the 19th century, initially called "Nina" (girl in Portuguese) because she lacks a personal name due to her enslaved heritage.

In a pivotal episode, Nina discovers her history, removes a scarf covering her hair, and learns that her father was forcibly separated from their family. The emotional depth of this character required drawing from a deeply personal place.

This episode won a prize at Kids PJIBA 2021 in the Fiction Ages 7-10 category. It was an honor to bring Nina's story to life and contribute to important conversations about representation and awareness.

Discrimination persists at all levels of society, and through characters like Nina, we have the opportunity to educate and inspire young audiences. Voice acting is more than entertainment — it's a vehicle for meaningful change.
